The UEE's war with the Van'dull has reached it's peak since it began over twenty years ago. With the Empire's forces gathered on the Western front to combat the nomadic race of alien raiders, many begin to question the safety of the Flora System itself. Either from a random Van'dull raid, treacherous bandits, or even just the random oddities that occur out in space, several outspoken citizens have expressed their concern over the safety of Hyperion and the Flora System.
District twelve has opened up once again in New Canton. Hyper-storm Felix devastated the district three years ago, causing local officials to cordon off the area, and evict citizens due to the damage. New Canton has officially begun welcoming businesses back into the district with the appearance of shop lease permits hitting the market earlier this week. New shop owners, or existing ones seeking to expand, can find these permits out on the net. Place of residence deeds can also be found.
Planet-Governor Malcolm Campbell signed into law the controversial Alien Refugee Bill, formally opening Hyperion's doors to non-humans who have lost their planets to the ever imposing threat of Van'dull raids. The ARB has received criticism from throughout the system, many people being worried that an influx of aliens could spell trouble for the mostly human colony. Supporters of the ARB say that it's the right thing to do, and can possibly smooth things over with the Xi'An Empire, with whom the UEE has been in a sort of cold war with, for almost five hundred years. Supporters also say that the influx of alien migrants could provide a source of cheap labor, something needed to help repair and maintain some of Hyperion's crumbling cities.
Local Arc-Corp stocks have risen 1.4% on the market, after a 36% increase of silica exports from Hyperion. The increase in production is largely contributed to several new pieces of more efficient mining equipment. However, other sources claim the increase can be thanked to severely underpaid migrant aliens.

Hyperion the Fora System, and New Canton are well known for being fairly fringe worlds. While still under the rule of human law, with it's own government, military, and police, the entire system still has a faint undertone of the piracy, banditry, and criminality that plagued it decades ago. Humans are the main inhabitants of Hyperion, however varying alien races are not uncommon.
