(Generic neko/kitsune appearance, but obviously not literal anime characters) Standing 5-6 feet tall on average, not including ears, the Veperan can commonly be confused for humans, especially by other aliens. Although the Veperan are derived from human DNA, there are a few noticeable characteristics which separate the two species which are common among all breeds of Veperan (IE, shared between feline breeds, Canidae (fox, dog etc.) breeds, etc.) such as animal-like ears atop their head and a tail. The type of tail and ears always match up to the breed (No cat ears with fox tail) and the natural color of the individuals hair also always matches the 'fur' color of their ears and tail. Natural hair colors for Veperan are the same as those for humans, being most commonly brown, blonde, black, red/auburn and the likes unless otherwise dyed. Compared to humans, Veperan lack normal human ears just above the rear of the jaw, since there is no reason for two pairs of ears, instead the empty space that the ears would normally take up on a human head, is instead covered in hair that grows naturally and at the same rate as the rest of the individuals hair, this space is more commonly seen on males due to generally shorter hair. Another commonly noted trait of Veperan is their longer lifespan, typically ranging from 180-220 years.

Similar to most humans, the Veperan mostly seek entertainment and social interaction like most humans.

Being derived from humans, the history of the Veperan people starts in 2317 on the planet of Asura in the Ferron system, centuries before its economical collapse and while the planet was still the home to many mining firms and various other businesses, corporations and entrepreneurs of all types rose a medical research firm called Sirona Medical Tech or SMT for short. On official books and press publications, the company focused on cures to some genetic diseases and advances in agriculture through the same principles of genetic modification humanity first began experimenting with in the beginning of the 21st century with common GMO's. Unofficially, it is known now that the company's primary focus was to modify existing organisms to add certain characteristics and traits with the same concepts of genetic modification that humanity has mostly been too afraid of meddling with for fear of creating something they shouldn't. The intention was to modify both animals and even humans to pinpoint what specific sections of DNA could exhibit certain desirable traits in certain species of animals and people, such as, for animals, fur color, fur thickness, bone structure, or even the presence of eyeballs, and with humans, the records show that at the beginning of research, traits such as hair and eye color were quickly pinpointed and could be changed for very simple modifications to a developing fetus. However, even under the guise as a proper medical firm, the company still couldn't naturally pool enough resources to tempt enough human volunteers to participate in these tests for there to actually be any groundbreaking discoveries in the field of genetic modification, so instead of buying minds over, they decided it was easier to trick them. So the SMT firm publicly announced its plan to begin efforts to couple colonization technology with agriculture technologies and began its construction of the colony ship The Asclepius, under the guise of a colony ship, the firm eventually took in just over 350 colonists for their project. The Asclepius launched in 2322, and around that same time, it is known that a leak was given to the Net about the true plans for these colonists, although most dismissed this leak as conspiracy theory madness, a few unaffiliated human rights extremists either saw the truth in the leak or were crazy enough to believe it, either way one week after the launch of the Asclepius, the headquarter building for the medical firm was bombed. During the three day manhunt for the individuals responsible, news of the destruction of the company eventually reached the researches aboard the colony ship, after which hearing the news, decided to put all non-head staff and colonists except research staff into cryo-stasis, after which the researchers and head staff abandoned the Asclepius and left the ship drifting in space, leaving only the basic necessities for the ship to stay alive by itself turned on, such as basic navigation by the ships AI, power and life support for all frozen on board.
The colony ship was left drifting in space for some time, approximately forty years, before it was eventually found by a lone human explorer, for whatever reason deep in uncharted space at the time. Security camera footage recovered from the Asclepius shows this explorer after he came aboard the Asclepius, describing him as an aged Caucasian male, he eventually went through the research teams logs and mission briefing after walking through hallway after hallway of cryo-frozen colonists. The information the explorer found eventually led him to believe in the cause of the original researchers based on recordings of interactions with the Asclepius' ship AI, the explorer took up the work of the researchers as to what can be assumed to leave a legacy behind in the form of a new people in his vision. The explorer began to use the still frozen colonists as guinea pigs, carefully splicing their DNA while they stayed in the specialized cryo pods made for the exact purpose of experimenting on the colonists during their frozen transit to their planned new home. Although the job of actually splicing itself was made as easy as possible, with it being as easy as dragging over desired traits and waiting for them to come to fruition over time in the testing cryo-pods. Although some subjects died during the procedure for various complications that even the research team couldn't have predicted, the man remained undeterred in his quest for a legacy of people he would hope develop different ideals than humanity by looking objectively at their own previous race, information based on more recordings with conversations with the ships AI. Eventually, after twenty years of work by the lone man, security footage finally shows him on his last day on the ship, walking through the hallways of his frozen 'legacy' before eventually boarding back on the ship he initially arrived in and departing the Asclepius. The colonists remained in their pods for a whole week before a scheduled release, after which, the 327 remaining colonists roughly awoke from cryo-stasis (with 16 shortly dying due to complications of awakening from extended cryo-sleep) with their bodies permanently changed and locked out of the only thing that could change them back, a short panic among the settlers as they scrambled for clues as to what exactly happened to them. Soon after realizing their unlikely and unfortunate fate, these remaining 311 colonists decided it was best to continue on with the idea of a new world that they had originally signed on for.
These remaining colonists wandered space for about 4 years before scans eventually found a highly suitable Terran world comprised of a mix of biomes, fauna and flora and being very earth-like and rather passive for colonization efforts. The colonists shortly named this world Veper II (after its sun, Veper) and settled it the best they could in 2389 with a starting population of 319 (+8 since the original de-thawing). With a very suitable and rather passive world before them and decent enough technology to help them develop their own colony, over the next 30 years the population doubled to create a more sustainable population of 647 at the time of 2419, at which point the colony had developed enough to attempt contact with the current human government and to find out where they were relative to what was known space at the time. Quickly figuring out they northeast (or above and right of) of the Chronos system and upon establishing communication with human government representatives, they were told that since they were no longer technically human, they would not receive any official benefits, resources, and immigration incentives from the human government that human colonies have. Rather disgruntled, the colonists set it aside and figured that they were on their own, so instead of relying off the human government for assistance, they formed their own rough government in the capital of Armeline and laid claim to their home of the Veper system. Quickly realizing they need a way to make money to expand their colony and population, the colony began renting out temporary mining rights for asteroid clusters to private human mining company's to gain enough funds to begin construction plans for colonial development. Through this move Veperan population began expanding exponentially as new development works, farms and businesses began to form on the planet, it was around this time that the old human government began to form into the modern day UEE, who upon negotiating once more with this new human government, essentially gave the same response and denial of colonial assistance, though half expecting this, the Veperan government gave up trying to be accepted into human government and continued on their path towards their own prosper, eventually reaching its own official population of 1,000,000 in 2587, the control of the Veperan government grew to eventually expand to colonize Veper II's moons and explore the surrounding systems for more worlds and resources to expand to. The Veperan quickly expanded into a nearby system of Isa on the planet of Alara, and with the forming of a second colony outside the Veper system, the official name of the Veperan government changed to the Veperan Systems Alliance, or VSA. Upon the official declaration of a second colony, the VSA government expanded defense efforts in order to help secure its growing territory, the once small fleet of paid volunteer militia formed into the branches the VSA still use today, being the Army, Navy, Marines, and the Systems Militia. Though the military rarely see battle, and the Veperan have yet to officially declare war against anything, the VSA military remains a moderatly sized and highly trained fighting force (simular to the US military at the begining of both world wars) that mostly fights pirates, although even still rarely at that due to very low poverty rates. Today the VSA military has a focus on guerrilla-like tactics, generally utilizing shields, electronic warfare, stealth and recon tactics while hunting for domestic threats across its current four systems and seven total colonies.
